Help! Mysql support and Joomla

I was trying to install Joomla on my laptop with Ubuntu installed, and when I reach at the Pre-installation Check page I saw -MySQL Support - No and when I proceed towards the FTP Configuration Page I also saw this message:
Unable to connect to the database:The MySQL adapter "mysql" is not available.

But I have MySQL-Server installed. I don't know whether there is any configuration I have to do first with MySQL-Server.
