Request for clarification about SCIM and firefox causing me to drip spaces when typing

When typing in firefox. certain key sequences cause a small popup box
to appear in the lower right hand corner of the desktop.  I have
trouble with this, as it causes me to skip spaces when typing.

Any advice? I don't need any special facility to type special
charactersets, for now.  Can I just remove SCIM? How?
