conflicting software - how to resolve

Hi there,

I'm new to Ubuntu and I have an question about adding an application.  

Trying to install MPlayer Movie Player I get the following message:-

This application conflicts with another installed software. To install
'mplayer' the conflicting software must be removed first.

I need to use the synaptic package manager to resolve the conflict, but
I don't know how.  Where/how can I find out ?
