Install & config a webserver that supports SSL. Install $webmail_app,
perhaps something like an IMAPS server, config accordingly, use.

My approach is Apache+mod_ssl, Dovecot and Squirrelmail, with exim
as my MTA.

The mod_ssl docs (from memory), will detail setting up mod_ssl,
Dovecot's well documented, Squirrelmail has a script to config it.
Exim's well documented.

YMMV.
