Latest Audacity broken in Ubuntu?

I am having problems with the new version on Ubuntu 7.10.  after I
remove noise, remove clicks, compress, when I go to create an mp3 from
the edited file the program closes with out any warning.  Sometime I
lose what I did, and sometimes I don't.  It has gotten me to make sure
I press the save button over and over again.
