Kcfe desktop doesn't show anymore

I have been using the Kcfe desktop as an alternative, installed in
addition to the Gnome desktop, and selecting which I wanted to use as
the spirit moved me.

Today, I can't get the Kcfe desktop to appear when I select that option
at bootup.  Gnome has no problem.

Is there a way to repair the boot menu?
