keeping the packages up to date

I would completely agree with that Alan.  My goal as the guy running the
server isn't for features for features sake, but to maintain the most
stable, secure environment to get the task at hand completed for the
application guys.  That being said, would the default repositories be good
enough for a standard run-of-the-mill LAMP server?  The information I've
received on this thread have been a great help so far, and I'm just
wondering if there are any other steps that I can take, automated and simple
if possible :), but whichever route, it needs to be the most comprehensive
one.
