sudo apt-get reinstall ttf-opensymbol

if it doesnt' work then:

sudo apt-get purge ttf-opensymbol
sudo apt-get install ttf-opensymbol

sudo apt-get reinstall openoffice-core

[ditto as above if it fails]

sudo apt-get reinstall openoffice-common

[ditto as above if it fails]

then

sudo apt-get install --reinstall openoffice.org

apt-get install -f

If you get more errors, do the same as above.

Good.

sudo apt-get install --reinstall xserver-xorg-core
sudo apt-get install --reinstall xserver-xorg

And if all above works, then:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install --reinstall ubuntu-desktop

Reboot. Boot to recovery mode and select option 4 to xfix, when
finished, select option 1 to continue to normal boot. Hopefully that
will get you back to a gdm.
