Hi Donny

The typical way to go from a text login to the GUI is with 'startx'  -
that will take you straight into your GUI session.

If you want gdm (the graphical log in screen) to be running,  it
should be launched with 'sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start'  or 'restart'
