You can just use Nautillus/KDM.

Assuming you use gnome, open a file browsing window, and in the location
bar, type smb://username@ip_address/share  If needed let gnome save the
password and create a bookmark.  This folder will only work from
GnomeVFS aware applications, however.  The benefit of mount is that you
can use the files with any application whatsoever.
