Heh, don't worry about it. The HTML-only emails you saw were also
whined at, later on in the threads. I'm sorry I was short about it,
and I hope I haven't scared you away.

The main difference is that the people who do use HTML mail, and don't
get scathed are the ones who choose HTML _and_ text from their client.
Don't take it personally, and I'll CC this apology to the list for
jumping down throats and savaging good people.
