As far as I understand, Vista take a copy of the registry on every
boot and also takes a system restore point before every installation.
Sounds like it's frequent enough to me.
It's just as painful to back up the hundreds of config files from a
Linux installation as it is to back up the registry; i.e. not really
painful at all.
