How do you monitor startup messages in Ubuntu?

Derek B suggested this as well, and I guess it is about as good as I
can get with Fedora.  I'll see what happens after a kernel upgrade.
Hopefully, it will work like the way the (Recovery Mode) grub line
gets updated each time.
