How do you monitor startup messages in Ubuntu?

Derek:

Made Google search per your last post. I found this:

http://linuxgazette.net/issue86/tag/1.html

About midway down it had a suggestion about changing primary video in
bios. I found this logical as the same 7.10 disk in my other computer
works well. I changed my bios primary video from integrated to PCI.
System boots much faster and has booted straight up three times in a
row. I will keep watching bootups. Bootup screen still black. Found an
email under this thread that said <Cont><Alt><F1> for startup messages.
I did this and the messages came up. Is there a command to incorporate
<Cont><Alt><F1> into system bootup? I would much rather have messages
than a progress bar.

Thx.
Jeffrey
