Firefox 3.0 aggravations

I just upgraded to FF3.  My problem is every time I start the browser, 
it starts in off-line mode, even though I've unticked "work offline" on 
the file menu.  I can find no other way to tell the browser I'm *always* 
online!  any ideas?
