In general I've found that Broadcom devices (PCMCIA) that I have used
typically pop right in and go once you've elected to allow Ubuntu to
download and install the drivers. I've two very old Thinkpad laptops
that I have Dynex Wireless G PCMCIA adaptors in (one Gutsy the other Hardy):

They are identified (using lspci) as:
Broadcom Corporation BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN
Controller (rev 02).
No special ndiswrapper or any other such. The only odd things that I
found is that I had problems with them if I didn't use the generic
kernel, and that when using wpa2 to the local Netgear WGR614 that I put
in last night, so my son can use wireless while he is visiting, is that
I had to enable roaming mode on the Network interface before the cards
would sync and the surrounding networds be detected. So, you might try:
System|Administration|Network|Unlock -
1. Uncheck any wired device
2. Select your wireless device (it was detected by the system as you
posted that it was a BCM94311MCG using lspci so it should be there),
then Properties, and select "Enable roaming mode".
Give it a minute or two to reconfigure your network & then click on the
network icon in the top panel. With any luck you'll see your wireless
network(s). You _may_ have to reboot, but it shouldn't be necessary.
If that doesn't do the trick, then open a terminal
(Applications|Accessories|Terminal - right click and add to your panel
as you are going to need this with Ubuntu quite often) and then copy &
past the output from the following terminal commands:
iwconfig
ifconfig -a
