OT: which to use - email client or web-based email?

To handle with a similar problem, I installed an  IMAP server in my desktop. I 
gained much, in that now I can use pretty much any mailer I want, from any 
machine, anywhere (SSL and a dynamic DNS are my friends for this). I'm still 
working on a way to convert my 80+ filters from kmail to something more 
vanilla (procmail, or maildrop), so I can use fetchmail and be completely 
mail client-free.

I really suggest this solution to whoever has to tackle
