help+ubuntu 8.04 installation+please

This means that you have more than one "package manager" running. For
example, you might have Synaptic and "Add/Remove Applications" running
and/or have a terminal running apt-get or aptitude.

Close all but one of them, and the error should go away. The error
could also appear if the update manager is running - which is not
always obvious - but the most likely reason is as above.
