best graphical mode on ubuntu 8.04 server

hey

thnx for the mail

yes it all went fine

and i restarted but then once i log in it just plays the start up music and
returns back to the log in screen again and this is wat happens even after
trying many times

is this something serious, how cud i possibly get into the desktop
