I think the "signal to noise ratio" has a great deal more to do with 
unanswered posts.  Look at the post which started this thread for 
instance, ... would one be more inclined to answer or ignor?   Too many and 
one tends to just filter the author's posts to the bin, then there are zero 
comments!  No big mystery there!
