New user- File Management

I am having trouble moving files around here. Many files copied from CD have
a small lock in the icon and the system won't let me copy and paste these
file around. I keep getting a permission denied message displayed. I am the
other user on the system so shouldn't I be able to have administration
access? Any ideas on how to remove said lock and move files around at will?
