Full Backup to new partition

I have been using rsync to put my backup on a USB portable HD. There
it sits and some day I might need it. Today I said "how do you USE this
backup?".

First turned off this computer and booted with my 7.18 LiveCD. There
I used fdisk to find the place to put the backup. Then used mkfs.ext3 to
give it a file system. Then mounted that to the /mnt on the LiveCD.

Using rsync I moved all the data from the portable HD to the new
partition. This was a no brainer and it worked just fine. The new
partition is /dev/hda7 and I did some fixing of /etc/fstab and
/boot/grub/menu.lst and now if right I should be able to boot the new
backup in /dev/hda7, but that will be done tomorrow because it is time
to relax today. Have a drink while finding out why the stock went down.
