alacarte

hi,

I just installed ubuntu 8.04 but when I tried to launch alacarte in 
order to 
modify my main menu preferences, it does not respond. I logged in 
as root 
and tried again but it failed to open. I got a message indicating a 
crash. 
please how do I resolve the issue.
