because FC3 installs on the same hardware without problem and FreeBSD also
installs without problem.

ie the EARLIER Linux hasnt a problem but the later one does.

the mouse is a standard PS/2 mouse, standard PS/2 keyboard

it IS nVidia, GeForce 6600, reading this off XP where there is no problem.
