Well, trying to be helpful this time, I would guess that your 1997 PC won't
boot from a CD/DVD (mine old Dell Dimension XPS450-R from 1998/1999
definitely can't, and yours is even older), so you probably need one or two
diskettes to be able to install Linux on that PC. I know that Vector Linux
could be installed on old systems like that with two diskettes and one CD,
and you definitely need the diskettes if your PC can't boot from CD/DVD.

I couldn't see that anyone mentioned this (maybe I just missed it), so I
thought I'd better add it, so that more experienced people might be able to
help you with this little part of the problem.
