My problem is that I get a message error when starting: "Master boot record error". Then I get the booting selection window (operating systems options). By now, I have not had problems when logging in Windows, but when I try Ubuntu, I am successful only logging in into GNOME safeboot. Could anyone help me identifying if there is a way to fix the boot record. If so, please be patient and give me a detailed procedure (I am not so expert) on how to find the problem and how to fix it.

We need more information.

What's in /boot/grub/menu.lst ?

Where was Grub installed?

What disk is the boot disk?

What version of Ubuntu was installed?

You might benefit from reading "man grub-install"
