Really slow install

Well Karl was right!

I dismissed hardware failure initially because Windows XP installed
and appeared to operate properly.  But then I noticed that Windows is
only seeing about 3.4 GB of the 4 GB of RAM installed.  Long story
short, I have a faulty dimm.
