How do I create a screencast?

I tried Istanbul and it didn't work.
1. full screen was flicker free but parts of the video were slow
2. half and quarter settings created flicker
3. Had to use the 3D setting

1. Ubuntu Hardy Heron
2. Compiz Fusion
3. Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.53GHz
4. 1G RAM
I've been trying to create a screencast with "Gtk RecordMyDesktop". It works okay. The problem is the 3D desktop. When I rote the cube frames get dropped. That ends up as flickering in the screencast video.
I've seen several YouTube screencasts without any flicker. How are people creating flicker free screencasts?
