No Commmon CD-ROM drive was detected

Hi I had the same problem
In the end I found that despite what the Master Slave links were set to,
Linux woulds only read the cdrom from one plug on the IDE cable It would
then quite happily read another cdrom on the other plug (Hardy) but only
boot from one.
