I have tried tried editing alsa.base to make the onboard sound card default 
and it will not do it dmesg says:

ALSA /build/buildd/linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-2.6.24/debian/build/build-generic/sound/alsa-driver/acore/init.

which is odd goven my kernel is 2.6.24-19-generic
