Do you have libflashplayer.so in your /home/<username>/.mozilla/plugins
directory? Do you have a .mozilla/plugins directory/folder?
If not, do this:
1. From Nautilus (file browser) do a Ctrl-h to view you hidden folders.
Go to .mozilla & right-click then 'Create Folder' - create 'plugins'.
2. Download the flash .tar.gz from
<http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash&promoid=BONRN>
unpack the .tz (you can do this by double-clicking the file in
Nautilus), it will create a directory/folder called
'install_flash_player_9_linux'.
Close Firefox.
Use Nautilus to go to that directory & copy the libflashplayer.so file
to the /home/<username>/.mozilla/plugins directory.
3. If you've tried to install flashplugin-nonfree from Synaptic and/or
apt-get, purge it:
sudo apt-get remove --purge flashplugin-nonfree
There are serious problems with flashplugin-nonfree - it shows up as
installed in Synaptic, but isn't actuall installed. Ref:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/173890
4. Restart Firefox & browse to http://adobe.com. You should then see the
flash playing on the site.
If you'd like the ability to turn flash of & on at will, install the
Mozilla PrefBar:
http://prefbar.mozdev.org/
Afterwards, select 'customize' on the prefbar & add 'Flash' and
KillFlash to the toolbar. You can then tic the Flash box to turn flash
on, and un-tic it to turn it off.
