No Menu

I used Synaptic and installed the KDE desktop and it is just what I need 
except!

I right click on the panel or the Kmenu and all I receive is "Help" and 
when I hoover on it I see nothing to help me send a launcher to my panel 
or the desk top as I found the directions to do several times by 
googling the problem.  Please help if you can.
