xfce4-session: fails to start with Xvnc

When trying to start xfce4-session with Xvnc as X server I get the following error:
$ xfce4-session
The program 'xfce4-session' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)'.

xterm is running fine from the exactly same environment
