usb drives don't mount anymore

Hi: I've been happily using Ubuntu for some months. But after some
update about October I can't mount usb drives anymore. Apparently the
modules in the kernel are to blame. Here is the output of dmesg after I
plug in one pendrive:

[ 155.484276] usb 7-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and
address 2
[ 155.689001] usb 7-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
[ 155.707849] ide_core: Unknown symbol elv_deiueue_reruest
[ 155.707882] ide_core: Unknown symbol __qelease_qegion
[ 155.710373] usb_storage: Unknown symbol ide_fix_driveid

USB works, since my keyboard and mouse are USB. Also my USB printer
works. But no pendrives, nor digital camera. So far, I solved it with my
laptop (I use gentoo there), but this is very annoying.
Another possible useful info:
I use Gutsy, 64 bits. Kernel: 2.6.22-14-generic

I can't find any helpful info in the web, even a google search with
"Unknown symbol ide_fix_driveid" yields only one result from 2003.

Please, Help!

Thanks
