I don't have an answer for you. But ironically enough I am in the
process of restoring a Windows XP drive/system for a relative; for the
most part everything works - except the Windows dvd drive won't
recognize a valid commercial dvd (home grown dvds work fine). I loaded
just about every codec known to man/woman & still couldn't get it to
work. In the end I repartitioned and added Ubuntu as a dual boot; dvd
works just fine on that. Perhaps I can get him to continue to boot into
Ubuntu so I never have to 'restore' his Windows programs again...

Suggestion: one thing that you might try doing is reinstalling
libdvdcss2 and win32codecs.
