I was having a look at my monitor's documentation again and I found these

Technical SpecificationsScanning Vertical refresh rate 56 Hz - 76 Hz
Horizontal Frequency 30 kHz - 61 kHzand then under Video
Video
Input Frequency
     XGA Hsync 48 - 61 kHz, Vsync 60 - 76 Hz (N.I.) [no idea what N.I is]
     SVGA Hsync 35 - 50 kHz, Vsync 56 - 75 Hz (N.I.)
     VGA Hsync 31 - 38 kHz, Vsync 60 - 76 Hz (N.I.)

I've been using the values under scanning in my xorg.conf
maybe I should try the values beside XGA?
