reading CD-MRW discs using Ubuntu Hardy

Hi,

I am trying to read some old CD-MRW backup disks using my laptop which
runs on ubuntu hardy alpha 3.  However after the disk is inserted, the
file manager only displays HTML files saying that the OS does not
support MRW etc.

So in Ubuntu / Xubuntu, how can we have proper read access to MRW
disks on drives that does not mention Easywrite support? (My laptop is
Toshiba Sattelite M35X bought in early 2005)
