I was looking for support and did not know where to look, I hope this was the right approach and sorry if not.
Anyways, I dual-boot with XP Pro and Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10 on a Compaq Presario 2100 and have recently purchased a Linksys WUSB54GSC USB Network Adapter with Speedbooster. I used the start-up wizard disk on the XP and I have wireless on it working perfectly fine. However, on the Ubuntu, it isn't even recognizing the USB to activate the wireless. I have tried looking it up and found some Ubuntu forums of people with the exact same problem and even after following their solution, it did not work:
$ sudo gedit /etc/dbus-1/system.d/NetworkManager.conf
$ sudo gedit /etc/dbus-1/system.d/nm-applet.conf
changing deny to allow
<policy context="default">
<allow own="org.freedesktop.NetworkManager"/>
<allow send_destination="org.freedesktop.NetworkManager"/>
<allow send_interface="org.freedesktop.NetworkManager"/>
</policy>
then restart dbus
sudo /etc/init.d/dbus restart
and then launch applet
nm-applet
then I was told to double click the network icon and the option should be there, but it wasn't, nothing seemed different. I'll admit I'm a newbie when using Ubuntu or any Linux distro, only been using it for 3 months. I really need wireless accessibility using the WUSB54GSC to do schoolwork and etc. and I don't want to have to rely solely on my XP to do so :(
Any help would be most appreciated, thank you!
