Rhythmbox can't play my music

Have you tried looking in the preferences and looking for alternative 
output devices? Most players can play either through a program like 
jackd or esd, or else directly to the sound card. Look for a preference 
named something like 'output device', and then try setting it to either 
'alsa' or 'esd'.
