X server occasionally not starting properly after boot

See the files /var/log/Xorg.0.log and Xorg.0.log.old, which are the 
current and previous log files of the X server.  So compare one from a 
normal startup with one from a bad startup to see the differences.  Once 
you find it, post back or do a google search of the exact message.
