Turning Tickless OFF

Is there a way, short of rebuilding the kernel, to turn tickless off on
32-bit Gutsy?  Perhaps an undocumented boot option or something?

I ask because a 32-bit Gutsy virtual guest with tickless slows the
entire system to a crawl when run under VMware on a 64-bit host.  I
would like to have a 32-bit Gutsy for testing, but cannot run tickless
without seriously impacting host performance.
