If I understand correctly, you have Dapper installed. It will only let
you upgrade (now) to Edgy, which then will let you upgrade to Feisty,
and THEN you can upgrade to the stable version (Gutsy).

If you can wait until March, you can upgrade from Dapper directly yo
Hardy, otherwise, I suggest you simply compile pine with the
instructions I gave earier.

The .deb you got from the site is not installable, because it needs
libs in versions you can't have without too much trouble. You might as
well simply get the .tar.gz in alpine's website and compile it
yourself. This is probably the best, since Dapper's pine is most
likely not the latest.
