x64 Install

I downloaed the AMD 64 bit iso file and wrote a disk from it, Ubuntu
7.10 and also another disk of Kubuntu 7.i0 for x86. My friend took them
home and first here are the specs;
Mach Speed PM4ST-890 Socket 775 mMainboard
1Gig DDR2 PC6400
Pemtium D 805 2.66Ghz DT Duel Core
@x at 00 Gig HDD
BFG GeForce 6600 GT OC 128MB PCIe w/duel DVI (OEM)

    We assembled the machine and installed WinXP w/SP2 and it ran
without a hitch. He wants to duel boot and begin breaking into Ubuntu
and thus the x64 Gutsy. When he boots from the CD it progresses nicely
until it is time for the desk top and at that point he sees three
vertical lines and several dots on the screen and the CD drive light and
the activity lights come to a rest. I have gone to the Mfg's web site
and downloaded the just released driver for the video card but that is
not going to help since there appears to be no genaric drive operating
the card for the install. I had him put the Kubuntu 7.10 in and boot
from it but even with it being x86 he still had the same result on the
screen at the CD boot.
    We will likely try this install next Saturday as he is a concrete
miwer operator and that will likely be our next opportunity to work on
the install without his wife skinning both of us alive.
    Any thoughts on how to make this successful?
