That's a kernel developer's issue.

Linus is right. He has a very good, valid reason for keeping these
drivers out of the kernel. The Linux kernel would be a mess if
everything got it. However, the users are right too. They (we) want
things to work. I have no problem apt-getting a program or a driver
in, but today I learned what a module is, I learned to modify source
code, I learned to compile software (alright, that I already knew),
and I'm about to learn how to patch. I am not a CS major. _I_ may be
willing to go through all that, but the next user might not. And even
if he is willing to learn, there might not be a Thomas around to hold
his hand and teach him. Is this operating system intended for devs, or
for users? Only users with a certain minimum threshold of knowledge?
Than say it right there on the homepage, or at least, make it very
clear at some point between debian.com and the download page. Change
the text "Debian is a free operating system (OS) for your computer."
to "Debian is a free operating system (OS) for people who already know
XYZ about computers."

A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?
