Agree... with the exception of the livecd part. If I waited for ubuntu's
livecd to try and load on most of my old systems it would be a two day
job. I *much* prefer using knoppix instead (http://www.knoppix.net/) and
then gparted :-) Just make sure that your bios is set to boot from CD,
then in knoppix set a system password (from the menu: KNOPPIX|Set
Password for root), then System|Gparted or GNOME partition editor.

As much as I love Ubuntu, the livecd issues drive me nuts & knoppix
boots quickly on everything that I own.
