I don't even know, or have I seen, a smbclient.conf
file. I have exactly what you listed above, to the
letter, in /etc/samba folder.

Well, not to be argumentative, I've found that if
"smbclient -L <server/share>' or "sudo mount -t smbfs
-o username=lchata,password=xxxxxx //ubuntu64/homes
/media/samba" works or doesn't Nautilus will do the
same in parallel. Actually, I've tried all before
changing smb.client. I'm not experimenting with
commands, just using them to test smb.conf along with
Nautilus and I've used them all so often now that I'm
confident I'm using them right. Google is my friend,
sometimes that is.
What I need to know is why two identical smb.conf
files, one on each machine, works on one but gives the
above listed errors on the other or some clue to
what's causing the errors. Found one hit(ubuntu)
listing the error that said it may be due to not
having setup user ID and password in NT lan manager or
workgroup or similiar but windows not even envolved as
both machines are on gutsy, one wifi connected and
one(that works) wired. Desperately needing some clues.
Thanks for any,
