Tricky! I cannot tell whether you are saying your printer prints fine.
If not, check the gimp-print ML. Also, if it does not scan, check the
sane-devel ML. HP provides support and the majority of HP pritners are
removed from gimp-print/gutenprint. So you would have to check an HP
ML or web forum etc. for help using hplip. HP should at least document
linux support for your machine (web?), and tell you what to do with
the driver (like if hplip supports faxes at all). Could be
permissions, but I don't have a fax so cannot help you on particulars.
