Segfaults in weird places after aptitude update && aptitude upgrade on clean alternate gutsy install

Replacing perl means perl doesn't segfault anymore.
Is there some way to use apt to check the integrity of the installed
files?  I'd like to figure out if the .deb I got was bad, or the
filesystem corrupted it or....
