how come Ubuntu does not have ManDVD?

No, Ubuntu works with whatever window manager/desktop environment that 
you want to use with it. I spend most of my time in Gnome, but I also 
have KDE installed, plus XFCE, WindowMaker, & OpenBox. Sooner or later 
I'll decide on one of the bunch & stick with that :).
