BIOS problem?

    Some history. When I first hooked up the SATA hard drive it showed 
up as (hd6). That is right because it is in BIOS 6 positions up from the 
position of this HD (hd0).  But now it is taking the BIOS time to come 
up and it is making the SATA drive appear to also be (hd0). This is not 
acceptable and grub will not use it.
